The forum wrangler script tracks your forum reading, and highlights posts to make it easier to keep track of threads you're interested in.
- Provides quick links to the last page in the thread, and the last page that you have read in it, and links to pages you posted on.
- Highlights threads in red (if you've posted in them) or green (if you've read them) in the forum listings.
- Highlights threads in bold if there are unread posts in the thread.
Please note: The forum wrangler script learns as you use the forums. It will only track your usage and highlight threads that you've read after you've installed it. As of version 1.0, it will look for old posts by you as you read through the forums, and mark threads as "posted in" if it sees one. See the FAQ for more details.
More features are planned for this hack.
- Install Firefox and Greasemonkey if you haven't already got them. You'll need to restart Firefox after installing Greasemonkey.
- Once Greasemonkey is installed and running, follow this link (or click on the orange "install" button above).
- The forum wrangler script will be downloaded, and Greasemonkey will ask if you want to install it. Assuming you trust me, click "Install".
- Start using the forums....
- Why are some threads I've posted in not highlighted? Or highlighted in green ("read") rather then red ("posted in")?
- Forum Wrangler flags threads as "read" or "posted in" when you read or post in a thread. The ones that aren't highlighted are ones you haven't read since you installed the hack. The ones in green are ones you've read but not posted in since you installed. As of version 1.0 (released 10 December 2008) it will spot old posts by you as you re-read old threads.
- When I click on "jump to page", I get a box that says "My posts: ?". What does that mean?
- The "jump to page" feature was added in version 1.0, and appears next to threads you've posted in. However, it only knows which pages you've posted when it sees them. If you were running an earlier version of the hack, it will have recorded that you posted in the thread, but it doesn't know where yet. If you click through the thread you've posted in, it will learn which pages you posted on, and the "my posts" box will get links to the relevant pages.
- When I click on "jump to page", why doesn't it list all the pages I posted on.
- It hasn't yet learned all the pages you've posted on - it will only list the ones it has seen.
